Nursing Career Australia

If you have a passion to emigrate to Australia from U.K., do you have to have a specific career to get in?We Answered:
The current points test is made up of points earned for your occupation, your work experience and your education.Your occupation must be listed on Australia's Skilled Occupations List (SOL) at the time you apply to emigrate; your education and qualifications must be at an acceptable level for that occupation and you must have relevant work experience. It doesn't matter how highly qualified you are or how much work experience you have, if your occupation is not listed as being in need of workers, you won't get in.

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s… The current points test - only applies until 30 June 2011
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s… The points test that is proposed to take effect from 1 July. Your occupations must still be on the SOL but no occupation points are awarded.
The problem in studying for something just so that you can emigrate to Australia is that the eligible occupation list changes every year and there is simply no way of knowing at the beginning of a course if the occupation will still be listed by the time you graduate. An occupation is listed because we have a shortage of workers in that field. When we have a shortage, more Australians train for that occupation (often with government incentives); qualified immigrants come in to fill the vacancies and the occupation is removed from the list - the cycle from shortage to surplus can be just a few years.
To give some examples of what I have said.
At present, Secondary School Teacher is listed but the shortage is only in a few teaching areas (mainly math and science) and the government has implemented strong incentives for students to go into teaching in those fields so the shortage won't last very long. Up until the middle of last year we needed Primary School Teachers - now we have too many and the occupation is no longer listed. We are training many more doctors and nurses than ever before so those shortages probably won't last either. Up until last year, we needed Pharmacists and they flooded in from overseas so that it's no longer listed as an eligible occupation.
By all means, take up a career with Australia in mind but whatever you do, make sure you choose a field in which you really want to work. You could end up working in that occupation in the UK because the skills are not needed in Australia by the time you graduate.

I am interested in persuing an environmental career? We Answered:
I don't know if Australia does it but here in the states whenever a company plans a major building or construction project...like a road or factory..they have to have an environmental impact statement...in short will said project will impact the environment and is it worth the risks if any...If Australia does require them then you can find out who is doing them by calling any major contractor...
By far the largest group to be required to file environmental impact statement are the oil and gas companies...

Vet nursing career...?We Answered:
G'day Mate-I am originally from Australia, in DY... ever hear of that? I have been in the states most of my life, and I just graduated with my RN degree.
It is funny that I saw your post, I am actually looking into moving back to Aus., in a few months!!
Anyhoo, Here is Pennsylvania they have some great schools like University of Pennsylvania schools for vet tech- I would search that def. I think that if you can, and really want to care for animals - they need GOOD nurses to take care of them. If I can help direct you in anyway, please write back.
Best of Luck,
Jo Anne
