Nursing Career Colleges

Stella Said:

Career college for Nursing?

We Answered:

I don't recommend career colleges. You should try to find a community college that offers the programs you're looking for. I know CA CCs are really good with RN programs, so I would think they would be with LPN as well.

Also, career colleges are for profit. They're not going to help you pay. Community colleges often will have programs for those with kids.

If you need help supporting your child, then you should look into welfare. I don't know why you wouldn't plan this out before becoming pregnant.

What career college can I go to get my vocational nursing license and be able to transfer the credits?

We Answered:

Be sure the LPN program you enroll in is from a school that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education. As long as your school is accredited the vast majority of nursing schools that offer the Associate's and Bachelor's degrees in Nursing will typically grant some credit for your LPN towards their degree program. If you attend a school that is not accredited, however, you will not be able to apply any credits towards an advanced nursing degree.

A list of accredited nursing schools by state:
http://rndegrees.net/campus-based-nursin…

Once you've graduated from an accredited LPN program and passed the NCLEX-PN you will be eligible for license in your state to practice as an LPN. Once you're a licensed LPN you could even take advantage of your employer's tuition assistance benefits to let them pay for your continued nursing education while you work by taking an accredited online LPN to RN degree program, such as this one:
http://rndegrees.net/Online_LPN_to_RN.ht… , or an accredited online LPN to BSN degree program such as the one offered by Indiana State University: http://rndegrees.net/LPN_to_BSN_Degrees.…

Notice that both of those programs offer LPNs substantial credits towards their registered nursing degree, but ONLY if you attended an accredited LPN program.

Best wishes in your future nursing career!

Career college for nursing?

We Answered:

You will not have time to finish a LPN program between now and January. You need to wait and enterr an LPN program in the fall of NEXT year (Aug 2011). If you start now, you will have to drop out because of the birth and the baby. Wait and start when you are ready. Applications will start in Feb or March for the Aug entry date. contact your local state 2 year tech school or community college. Stay away from those for-profit career colleges. They'll charge you 10 times what the state schools will.
