Nursing Career In Australia

Joann Said:

Is 24 too late to start pursuing a nursing career?

We Answered:

I don't think that you are too old. I'm 25 and just now starting on the path to becoming a pharmacist. Hang in there, you'll make it.

Nursing career questions?

We Answered:

i live in the uk
but i think one of the biggest cons, is the small pay for how much work you do. what often happens is work becomes so stressful, back to back shifts etc that nurses loose their passion, and it becomes just a job to them. im about to start uni, and i hope after my 3yrs training, im going to try and keep the passion alive! and try not to get too stressed!
Obvo the biggest pro is the satisfaction of knowing you have helped saved a life, looked after the patient, and have got to see them go home happy and healthy! As iim not a nurse yet i cant really give you anymore pros and cons. but in the uk there is a thing called banking. where you can help out nurses on wards and the pay is quite good. and you get great experience for when you come to train as a nurse. maybe there is something similar in austraila?!

Good Luck! xx

I want a career in Nursing. Where do I start?

We Answered:

Wow! You're from Australia! I've met several nursing students and nurses from Australia. I'm from the USA by the way.

Nursing is definitely an excellent career option for you, especially with the uprising nurse union that will occur in Australia soon. I'm not sure how it begins in Aus, but in the US, we have to complete prerequisite classes before we apply to nursing schools. Try that first. If the university that you are applying to isn't overcrowded with applicants for nursing, then you better go for that university, because you'll more than likely get in the nursing program. I also heard, but I'm not quite sure, that there are "trade schools" though I forgot the name of it in Australia, that you can earn your nursing training. My advice is to try and go for a university degree in nursing. It'll do you well in the long run, trust me.
