Nursing Career Options

Elizabeth Said:

What are other career options for RN (Nursing)? ?

We Answered:

You can review health insurance claims for medical necessity or do pre-treatment reviews. These are office jobs and the pay is quite good.

You can work for companies developing computer software and medical devices for hospitals. These companies often need nurses for help with product design, testing, and so on.

You can teach nursing in colleges or hospital schools.

You can be a healthcare advocate.

You can work in research.

Nancy Said:

Anyone know of any nursing career options with little to no patient contact?

We Answered:

If the nursing feild is what you are looking to go into and you want no patient contact then you are looking into the wrong feild for a career.
Most anything that has to do with the care of patients, like nursing envolves contact with people.

If you want to just go into the medical feild then look into being some type of medical researcher; but even that at one point will require you to have contact with patients to complete your degree.

Jaime Said:

Nursing career path options/advice?

We Answered:

Have you considered working with plastic surgeons and/or dermatologists. Both of these doctors provide services which make life dramatically improved for their patients. It seems to me that this would be an incredible line of work: witnessing and helping in a person's desired transformation.

Best wishes.

Leslie Said:

i'm a student nurse, what career options will i have when i qualify, apart from nursing?

We Answered:

Hi Micky

Nursing is a very noble profession and could take you anywhere in the world.

To be a social worker, you would need to do a Social Work degree but might be able to off-set some of your nursing qualifications as credits towards a degree. Definitely worth enquiring.

You could also do other interesting work with your nursing qualification - Red Cross, St John Ambulance, voluntary and community sector.

Bill Said:

What are the benefits of obtaining a PhD in nursing? What kind of career options would I have?

We Answered:

A PhD in nursing generally gets you a teaching position (such as in a nursing school) or a research one, maybe a management one (although most have masters). No one will pay you more as a bedside nurse because you have a PhD--too expensive.
