Nursing Career Structure

Is becoming a Chiropractor a good career? We Answered:
OK, I just became a chiropractor and I absolutely love helping patients. However, don't get into this career if you want to be "rich". It is difficult to become wealthy with this career. However, if you want to help patients, then it is good for that.As for prerequisites- You will have to hav 90 transferable units (approximately 2 years of undergrad), 1 year of chemistry, 1 year organic chemistry, 1 year of physics and 1 year of human biology.
As for the classes in chiropractic school. It is equivalent to a full medical school. Yes you will be focusing on the usculo-skeletal system, but you will have to know a lot of other information too. You will have a gross anatomy glass where you will be required to dissect a human body. You will have biochemistry, anatomy, First aid, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and a whole bunch ogf other "ology" classes.
It is very intesive, but being able to help patients really makes it all worth while.
I really wish you the best. For more information, give some of the chiropractic schools in your area a call and see when they are having an open house. I personally attended the Southern California Universoty of Health Sciences( www.scuhs.edu) . They are really heavy into the science aspect of chiropractic. This makes it much easier to pass your National Boards, but there are other good schools out there.
I wish you the best on your decision.

Nursing or Pharmacy for a career? So confused.?We Answered:
I have been in your situation before, my man! I am a male and was strongly pursuing a nursing career, and have strongly considered pharmacy. It sounds like you are leaning towards pharmacy, and let me tell you this is a GREAT career! I understand you don't want to go into retail, and I have respect for that (I'm like you....let's focus on patient care and hard work rather than stand behind a cash register all day!), and don't look at walgreens and CVS or the small-town pharmacy as your only options! When I was thinking about pharmacy, I was going to go for hospital pharmacy. This is a cool pharmacy career because you are going from bedside to bedside counseling patients and working with them (in some very large hospitals, a technician might be in the actual pharmacy and the pharmacist will be on the floors, or even vice versa), not to mention I have known many who specialized in oncological (cancer) pharmacy, surgical pharmacy, invasive/sterile pharmacy (making IV's and other medications administered into the body) and critical care pharmacy! But as far as nursing goes, there is alot more chemistry involved than you would think! And as a nurse you could go on to get your PhD. In nursing if wanted! You have a pretty good GPA for a freshman, don't doubt yourself. Just keep working at it, both intellectually and financially, there are ways for hospitals, the government, and schools to pay for both careers if successful. In the end feel rested knowing that whatever career you choose you will have plenty of jobs and a good salary! But I actually went to athletic training/emergency sports medicine, not because I chose against the two, but I am good at it, love it, and got a scholarship for it :).Alicia Said:
How will my knowledge of Microbiology and Bacteria Structure help me in my chosen career as a Nurse? We Answered:
You will be dealing with many patients who either have bacterial infections or are susceptible to bacterial infections (due to weakened immune system). By understanding the structure of bacteria, you will have better knowledge of the mechanisms by which bacteria invade and infect the human body. You will therefore have a better understanding of treatment and prevention of bacterial infection, and you will be more helpful to affected patients.Justin Said:
Which of these chemistry classes would be easier, or more interesting? We Answered:
I think that if you wanted to be a nurse you should choose Chemistry for Health Sciences; however, it would look aw some on your resume for college to have taken Organic Chemistry. Organic chemistry will deal with everything that has Carbon in it. I think it will benefit you in teaching you the basic makeup of cells and other parts of the body. I would choose Organic, but that is just me. Whatever you want :)Alfredo Said:
Can I convert my BA Hons Degree in Sociology and Criminology to enter Medicine/Nursing?We Answered:
I think it would be best now to figure out if you want to be a doctor or a nurse. I say this because you have already spent four years in school and I am sure that you have not met the pre-requisites for nursing or medicine.Lets say you decide to do nursing....you most likely need another year to complete the pre-requisites then 2 years to complete the program. Now the pre-requisites for nursing and medicine are different also. So let’s say that you decide after getting a nursing degree that you want to be a doctor you would have to complete another year or so of pre-requisites then apply to medical school and do some years there then a residency....that’s a long time.
Now you could always do the nursing route and then later get a masters and become a nurse practitioner and they work independently or in conjunction with doctors in regards to patient care and that would only take another two years after the nursing degree as opposed to a medical graduate program and residency that is needed for doctors.

What career should I pursue? We Answered:
Have you thought about a career with people who suffer from a dementia. In particular I am thinking of Altzheimers. Nutrition is so very important for this group. You can also shadow in a nursing or rest home in your area. You can gain qualifications whilst doing this. If you love being busy ......what more can you ask. From what you say about yourself, you have all the right elements needed to be around people who suffer this disease. I have worked with them all my life in England, retired as deputy managed of an EMI home last year, and can assure you it takes a very special sort of person to be a good nurse for these folks. Your obviously very patient, love stress are very articulate, and not afraid of seeing and talking about your good and bad side.
From what I have read fom you, you sound perfect material to make one of the very few who actually end up being excellent nurses/friends to people suffering with this disease. Look on the Altzheimers web site see how the numbers will increase over the years for us all, most of who will suffer this disease. In my heart from what you write in your question I know this is where your talents lay. Much love and luck my friend. PXX

Do you think society was a better place when atleast one parent was at home raising the children? We Answered:
First things first we need kids to quit having kids. And I completely agree with what you are saying. I think that more attention and parents communicating with their children more would help.
