You will need at least a 12-month LPN program and quite possibly a little experience working on the floor. The computer stuff you can usually learn on the job because every hospital uses a different system and they want you to learn THEIR system. You don't need the full four years of nursing. Most employers would prefer a 2-year ADN degree (and RN license), but you might be able to squeak by with the LPN.

In the coming future it would be a great choice. But it is still fairly new and so not a lot of IT are willing to allow clinicians in their terrority yet. But clinicians are starting to demand it as we get more computerized in the hospital. So there are jobs out there but not alot yet.
