Brandon Said:

where do I start with looking for a nursing job in australia?

We Answered:

If you are in the UK then take a look at the nursing times and nursing journals as they are always asking for nurses in Australia.
Go for it. Wish I had 5 years ago when my kids were younger.

what are the in demand jobs in australia which would help us get a PR?

We Answered:

I believe your chances of attaining Permanent Residency in Australia are much higher once you have already lived in Australia for a time. The keys will be a) do you have a skill that is in demand in Australia, and b) do you have a job in that skilled area. Finding an employer to sponsor you is much easier when you are already living in Australia, especially if you are working in Australia.

My advice is to study the following Australian skills in demand list: http://bit.ly/3qcXbp , and keep and eye on it because it is likely to change over the time that you are studying in Australia.

I also suggest finding yourselves jobs with reputable Australian companies, in a skilled area. That way you are more likely to find an Australian sponsor.

You should also make sure your resume or CV will be competitive in the Australian job market. There is a free quiz you can do to determine where you stand with your current resume, that also gives suggestions on how to improve where you are going wrong: http://www.nabthatjob.com/quickfreeresumeassessment.htm.

Good luck!

Italian Nurse going to work in the Australia?

We Answered:

I am from Australia. we are screaming out for nurses here but you will have to check if your qualifications are recognised.
House prices have gone through the roof here lately and rents are high too but it really depends on which city you want to live in.
Like I said, we are desperate for nurses, so you could pretty much pick anywhere you want to live.
Call the Queensland Health Department for nursing jobs in Queensland. They are always recruiting from overseas.

How to apply for nursing job in Australia?

We Answered:

To settle you have to apply for a PR visa which requires your career/skill to be on the Critical Skills list.

Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and Registered Mental Health nurse are all on the list BUT you need to have at least 2 years experience in your own country before you can apply. Then you have to go rigorous background, medical etc test and you have to be one of the 100,000 selected (as there is a limit on the number of migrations per year - this number has dropped by 1/3 so far in 2009 with a further drop expected). You will have to pay around 5K in fees to get your application started and show around 40-60K per person in savings to provide for yourself for one year in the event you do not get a job.

A friend of mine has only now got a FT nursing job after trying for 3 years. She has been a casual and she had 15 years experience in Australia before moving to Japan for a year. So it might not be easy.
