Nursing Jobs Overseas

Darlene Said:

How would one get a job traveling overseas? ?

We Answered:

Apply as an english instructor and they might even pay for the trip + room and board. However, they make you go through a basic comprehension crash course for the native language of the country you plan to travel to.

Sandra Said:

If you take a civilian job with the military overseas, do you get a permanent resident visa in that country?

We Answered:

No you do not get a permanent resident visa for Japan you will be there as a Federal Government employee so you are there under the SOFA agreement. Your passport will be stamped with the SOFA Stamp and that is all that is needed. This is where you are allowed to work in Japan for the US.

My fiance is active Air Force and I am an LPN. How hard will it be for me to get a nursing job overseas?

We Answered:

My wife (RN) faced the same problem when I got my assignment to Japan. She had two options enlist (a little more difficult as an RN looking for a commissioned spot as opposed to an LPN looking for an NCO spot), or go Civil Service.

We got lucky, a civil service slot opened up in her area of specialty after we got there. She was positioned to jump into this position since she was already volunteering in the ward. Even if you don't get a job, I recommend keeping current by volunteer work.

Also, many countries have reciprocity with US states on nursing licenses. Technically speaking, my wife is qualified to work as a nurse in Japan. However, since she speaks no Japanese, it certainly wasn't practical. But if you are fluent in the language of the country to which you will be assigned, this might be an option as is the possibility of taking their board exams.
