Nursing Jobs Salaries

Kristen Said:

Doctors and nurses, What would Obama's plans for healthcare do to healthcare salaries and jobs?

We Answered:

If the Obama's plan pushes through, there will be less pay for both nurses and doctors. Medical professionals will be less motivated to work because there is less pay and more workload. The richer people will resent it because they will have to pay more taxes of their hard-earned money while others (not all) just take advantage and cheat to be given free medical healthcare. Okay if people are deserving for the free healthcare, but not when one can afford it, but just don't want to pay.

Judy Said:

Do you think nursing jobs (nurses, etc) salary will go up to $40 an hour?

We Answered:

It depends on where the job is located and the amount of education. In Ohio some facilities are offering BSN's ( BS in Nursing) $32/hour to start. So I would imagine that $40 is not an unattainable amount. BTW Nurses with Phd's are writing their own tickets. And while $40 may seem astronomical it's only $1440 per week ( Based on a 36 hour week as a lot of nurses here work 3 -12 hour shifts) or $1600 on a 40 hour week. After taxes you won’t be hungry but you definitely won't be buying a Bentley

Bill Said:

what are the salaries for the following jobs? Registured Nurse, Baker & Kindergarten Teacher?

We Answered:

As a new Kindergarten teacher in California who has a masters degree (that helps!) I make 46K a year. But I get a raise of approximately 2K every year until my 18th year of teaching where the raise lowers to aproximately 1K a year. Finally after 28 years of teaching I cap out and dont get any more raises. I am set to cap out at 80K a year.

It really depends on the school district you work for though not all California teachers get paid the same. It also depends on your level of education and how many years you've been teaching.

Tracy Said:

What are some high salary jobs in the medical field besides nursing? What are the pros and the cons of each?

We Answered:

Pharmacist is a high paying job. You make anywhere from $98,000-$115,000 to start. Some make more than lawyers but a little less than doctors. That's a pro of course. Another pro is they have good hours, some with no weekends. The con is before you can practice you need to get licensed and only 65% of graduates pass the 3 test. Good thing is you only need a BS in Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or Biochemestry. Which all are only 4 year degrees. You can actually start online with University of Phoenix with an Associates in Healthcare with an Emphasis in Pharmacy Practice. ONline school won't take long at all. Some do it in a year. Then once you have your Associates go for you Bachelors. Hope this helps!

Jorge Said:

What are some jobs I can have if I get my Master's in nursing? salaries?

We Answered:

I think it's safe to say that as yet you don't have a nursing license let alone a degree of any kind. Before you apply (and yes, you take an exam first & pass it before you may apply - it's the GRE - Graduate's Record Exam) for a Master's program, you must have completed a Bachelor degree. A BSN or BS is best.

I don't know what you mean by "head nurse". With an MSN (Master of Science in Nursing), you can apply for positions as a nurse educator (instructor), nurse case manager, school nurse (helps to get an MPH - Master in Public Health) and nurse manager. There are more positions than this open to an RN with an MSN. If you wish to become an RNA (Registered Nurse Anesthetist), you need to take the courses for that and the certification exam. If you want to become an NP, also called RNP, you must decide on a specialty and complete the nurse practitioner program for that specialty. It goes without saying (or it should) that you must first be a Registered Nurse....an EXPERIENCED Registered Nurse

Income ranges from 60K to six figures.
