Online Nursing Programs

Zachary Said:

Online nursing programs?

We Answered:

You cannot obtain a nursing license with no clinical experience. It is very hands-on as you say. The legitimate nursing programs you see online only offer the textbook type, "normal" academic classes online, you still have to go through clinicals in a hospital like any other nursing program. If they say you don't, it is a scam.

The only exception I know to that is online programs where a nurse who already has a bachelor's degree and a certain amount of experience in the field can get a legitimate master's degree online.

Esther Said:

What are the admission requirements for online nursing programs?

We Answered:

Online nursing degree programs generally have the same admission requirements as standard credit-granting courses on campus. Each college or university has its own criteria. Variables may include such factors as GPA, prior degree, and completion of standardized tests for admissions to graduate programs, while others might not require admissions tests. Online nursing degree students are not confined by geographic constraints and enjoy the huge advantage of having a much broader selection of schools available to them to choose from. Applicants for online nursing degree programs would be well advised to request information from several schools offering their desired degree in order to compare admission criteria and select the one that`s best for them.

Are there any online nursing programs which don't require an RN degree?

We Answered:

Yes there is, go to http://distance.minnesota.edu they have nursing A.S and LPN that you do on line, the downside you have to go to Minnesota for your clinicals, not sure how often that is but it may be worth it and doable depending on your availability to travel a little bit. check it out...

Just wondering if anyone has gone through an online nursing program? How does it compare to the class room?

We Answered:

I'm not to sure where you are from, but in Australia we have University based and correspondence or distance education which also involves blocks of prac. (In a hospital or health care facility). You will find it difficult unless you are going in as a mature age student, if you have some recent nursing, study experience and discipline.
I originally trained as an Enrolled Nurse (level before Registered Nurse) in a hospital setting and then some 9 yrs later went back to uni as a mature age student full time. I found it hard for the first 6 months getting back into study but I had a significant advantage with my nursing experiences. My concern with the "on line" or correspondence (horrorspondence) training is the lack of hands on experience it offers. I know some of the girls/guys I went to uni struggled to put into practice what they were learning out of a book. Remember you are dealing with people and often at the most vulnerable times in their lives so you really need to experience it one on one. I think on line would be even more difficult as you often do not have access to colleagues, friends and other sources to bounce ideas and thoughts off. In particular it is good to be around others that have nursing/medical experience so you can pick their brains, I was still working part time whilst at uni and found it extremely valuable.
You can be assured that the workload will be high. If your disciplined you could certainly pick off a few subjects until you can devote yourself more fully.
Hope this is of some help and good luck. It is a very rewarding career but also a lot of hard work, the learning and experience continue every day

online nursing programs?

We Answered:

There is only a small handful of completely 100% online courses and they are strictly for people who come from other medical careers, such as EMT.

As someone with no medical background you will not find a 100% online program, because of licensure requirements which make you sit class time hours and perform in skills labs and have clinical hours requirements.

You might find a program with some of your pre-reqs and gen. ed. courses available online, and perhaps a few nursing courses, but not all.

The RN to BSN completion programs for existing RNs who hold an Associates Degee can be completed online.

online nursing programs without any prior lpn or nursing exp.?

We Answered:

Well, i suppose there might be if it was possible to nurse online... But since it really isn't possible to learn all you need online, it is unrealistic of you to expect to find an entire nursing program taught online... Sorry.
