Registered Nurse Education

Teresa Said:

What kind of education do you need to become a Registered Nurse?

We Answered:

Congratulations on the birth of your first daughter! You're very blessed :)

For general career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'registered nurses' or such. Please make sure that the nursing program is accredited within the industry.

Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (some have 'bricks and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited'), if even, for the prerequites such as penn foster, ashworth, kaplan, university of phoenix, ashford, strayer, everest, sanford brown, anthem, capella, argosy, devry, colorado tech, walden, ITT tech and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

Registered Nurse education Help?

We Answered:

There are a lot of good nursing schools, probably one not to far from where you live. The problem facing nursing schools right now is that there is a large demand for school resources and not enough resources and teaching staff to handle the demand. Here is a list of the schools that do not currently have a waiting list.

What is the minimum education required to be a registered nurse? Maximum?

We Answered:

The minimum education to become an RN is an Associate Degree. This can be earned at a community college/junior college, state university, or private college- not a "career college", but the "private ones" that are usually affiliated with a religious denomination).

There is no "on-the-job" training for health care professionals. You need a formal education, a degree, and either state licensure or national certification.

Stay away from over-priced "technical" or "career colleges" (such as Kaplan, MedTech, BrownMackie, etc) for ANY type of education, especially healthcare!!

The maximum education required to be a Registered Nurse is a Bachelors. By that I mean that longest training/education that will allow you to sit for the NCLEX. Of course, after that you can earn a Masters or a Doctorate. The Masters is mainly to be an Advanced Practice Nurse, such as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse-Midwife, or CRNA. A Doctorate is useful if you want to expand into education, such as teaching at a nursing school or being an administrator at one.

What is the education needed to be an Registered Nurse?

We Answered:

No one quite hit it all: A two year (AA--associates) RN is probably closer to a three year as you need to complete the pre-reqs for the AA degree and the 2 year tract RN; the BS (bachelors is structured the same--nursing tract plus the BS reqs). BOTH are RNs after they pass the exam. The AA RN is limited more from holding management positions. In our ER there is no difference between the AA RN and the BSRN in job duties & responsibilities--both can be charge nurse as well. (except the dept head is a BSRN). The salary is no different as well. If you wish to go on further in the nursing field you would eventually need a BSRN, but to work? An AA would suffice. A good nurse is a good nurse and good as gold regardless of degree in my book. You can also do an AA to start & once hired, often your employee will pay you to further your education--sweet.

Javier Said:

Is there a lot of education required to become a registered nurse.?

We Answered:

There are two programs for Registered Nursing.

1. ADN Associate Degree Nursing which is a two year program offered by many technical or community colleges.

2. BSN Bachelors Degree Nursing which is a four year program offered by larger colleges and universities.

To become a RN it takes 2-4 years. The BSN can also be a manager/administrator where the ADN will do mostly nursing work. The pay is good for both. Usually the BSN makes slightly more money...but ADNs still get paid well.

Stacey Said:

What education do I need in order to become a registered nurse?

We Answered:

If you go to a community college and do an associate program, which is two years of study, you will get an associates degree and an RN title. If you choose to go to a 4 year school and get a bachelors degree in nursing, then you are an RN BSN, meaning you went for four years instead of 2. Lol it's a little confusing.
