Registered Nurse Job In

Minnie Said:

How do I become a physicians assistant? What do they do, and is it a better job than RN?

We Answered:

Actually Daun not only did not answer the question but is not quite correct either. However, you can not compare nurses to PAs (the correct spelling is physician assistant). One is a nurse and one is a mid-level practitioner which functions in the medical role making a diagnosis, a medical treatment plan, interpreting tests & xrays and writing prescriptions for meds, physical therapy etc. They do not do any nursing functions unless they are helping out. PAs and NPs are similar in their scope of practice but do come from different educational backgrounds & theories. While there are a few associates programs for PAs; the majority are either a bachelors program of a masters program. So the education is about 5 years to about 6.5 (the masters is 2.5 years long after a bachelors). PA programs are extremely competitive (300 applicants per position to some programs) and require in many cases a pre-med type set of pre-reqs. They are in demand and average about $50/hr plus perks. As to which one is easier, it is the RN--less schooling, liability and critical decision making overall. Better depends entirely on you. PAs function similar to MDs, so they must examine a pt & come to a decision--this is not easy at all. They also carry much more legal liability.

Firefighter, Paramedic, or Registered Nurse? Which job would be better?

We Answered:

If you are a capable person, you should be a firefighter. Reason is very simple. As a paramedic or a nurse, for sure you'd have to be on the run all the time. As a firefighter, at least there are chances that you don't have to work.

What are the alternate job options for H1B visa employee working in IT field?

We Answered:

H1B requires you to work in a job that is DIRECTLY related to your degree and professional experience. It's not permission to roam the United States taking any job you can find.

If you can't find another job in IT you need to leave, soon.

Better Job? Registered Nurse or Speech-Language Pathologist?

We Answered:

As far as jobs prospects, being in a specialty like a Speech Pathologist is too limiting. As a nurse you can have more job prospects & much more opportunities. You can always specialize later in an area you are interested in for RNs find more employers & can go for further training (ER, ICU, Public Health, Geriatrics, Medical- Surgical, Hospice, etc.).If you are in your first year look into switching over for your BS in Nursing for I think you can just get credit for what you have already taken for your BS.You'll have to take State Boards later but you should earn about $50,000 or more when you graduate (depending on where you live).Good luck.
