How hard is it to get your RN (registered nurse)?

We Answered:

Yah its hard. You have to have higher then a c in all science classes(anatomy, physiology and microbiology) and in an english class. Then you have to get a c or higher on the teas exam. Then you can apply but they recommend you to take all your co-reques and additional requirments before you enter. They are like psychology, anthropology, statistics, History, humanity and communications. Then you can apply when you have all the pre-reques done and some or all of your others classes. At my school they have 250-300 people apply each semester and only 80 make it it. The lowest GPA for the prereques last semester was 3.4 or a solid B average! Just study hard and really focus and you can do it! As far as the CNA it might help but it is your grades that make all the difference in he end!

Registered Nurse????????????????????????????

We Answered:

Hey, I'm actually a nursing student. I'm in a RN program. Here's the deal. It's better to do RN. You have more freedom and you get paid better. A lot of hospitals are actually phasing out LPN, but many hospitals still take LPNs. Many of them work in nursing homes. I'm also going to be realistic. RN is a lot work and school and some people just don't have the time. Honestly you should go for your RN. Some LPN programs is about 15-18 months and cost about the same an going for your RN.

How hard is it to get into and complete the Registered Nurse program?

We Answered:

I received my BSN back in 1996, so I don't know about current programs. My program was challenging, but once you get out of the classroom and into the clinical rotations, it gives you a better sense of what being a nurse is like. I love the clinical part of nursing school.
I do know that there are a lot of RN's that became RN's for the $ and hate the job. They're miserable so their poor patients suffer and have to deal with their horrible bedside manner. I suggest anyone looking to become a nurse, maybe volunteer at a hospital, work as a nursing aid, anything so you can see what it's like working clinically with patients. I guess what I am trying to say is, don't do it just for the $, do it because you want to help people, and you'll enjoy your job. There are all aspects of nursing that you can get into, but before you specialize, you usually have to work as a staff nurse first. I personally love it. I know what it is like to be a patient, so it makes my job a little easier. When I graduated nursing school, I was comissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps because I had a ROTC scholarship. I was active duty for four years, and got to specialize in labor and delivery. I've worked all areas, but oncology and hospice is my favorite. Good luck to you! I hope you'll find that nursing is for you because we need good nurses.
