Registered Nurses Jobs

Denise Said:

Do registered nurses enjoy their jobs?

We Answered:

I love it!
Pros: Got to see very interesting things, a lot of variety (maybe same diagnosis, but different presentations), feel good about helping people, higher pay, etc, etc
Cons: up on your feet all day, no or little time for breaks, have to deal with obnoxious patients who think nurses are their slaves, feel bad when there's nothing else I can do for them (terminally ill pts), etc, etc

Doctor Office Jobs And registered nurses?

We Answered:

Doc's office may not hire RNs due to their salary; new grads would either be working more as a MA or have to be trained if the practice has time. This may not further your clinical skills much, so it depends on if that is something you want to do. Many larger hospitals have new grad programs; nursing homes, SNFs, public health type clinics may be open to new grads. Those would offer you more in the way of furthering your nursing skills.

I wanted to know if registered nurses like their job?

We Answered:

Ok, first I'm a Paramedic not a Nurse... BUT, my wife is a Nurse and we actually just had this conversation yesterday, so...

Like most things it depends on who you are (your personality) and where (and with who) you work. Your attitude and the attitude of those you work with will determine if you like your job more than anything else... no matter what you do.

In nursing, there are SO MANY places you can work and SO MANY types of nursing. This is why I had the conversation with my wife.

There was a nursing student who had been doing all her clinical and internship time in a "Skilled Nursing Facility" (Nursing Home) and in Med-Surg. She had become VERY dishearted and was going to quit. Then she did a rotation with my wife in a NICU (Neonatal ICU). She emailed my wife and said she was completly renewed in her motivation and enjoyed working with my wife and was pleased to see Nurses that "Actually enjoyed going to work". I can't speak for Med-Surg, but as a Paramedic I see Nursing home nurses everyday and just don't see any happy nurses there... I'm sure they are out there, but as a whole, they are not happy. My wife was also an ER nurse, she LOVED it, but again many nurses hated it, it was too much work and depressing for some.

My adviced: be a nurse. the oppurtunities are really endless (if you work in a place you don't like... you can always change places): Nurses are always in need, no matter what happens to the acconomy, you will always have a job. and it IS a job you can really enjoy, but that will depend on your personality. Work as an EMT during Nursing school... you will both get experience only ER nursing get, as well as see first hand the many different types of nurses and nursing oppurtunities.

Good luck and be safe.

Is the work of Medical Assistants and Registered Nurses job duties similiar in alot of ways?

We Answered:

You could call a local techincal school to see how long the training for a medical assistant is...as far as i know, it is no more than a few weeks or a couple of months. Registered nurses must have at least 2 years of college, and now most places require a 4 year college degree. The job of the registered nurse requires a geat deal more training and has much greater responsibilities. Medical assistants often work in doctor's offices and take blood pressures, temperatures, and prepare patients for the doctor to examine. Most doctor's offices no longer employ registered nurses ecause it is so much cheaper to use medical assistants. Most R.N.s work in hospitals and care for critically ill patients, give medictions, and perform and assist with compicated and high tech procedures.
