School Nurse Career

Terry Said:

Can I do Bartending as my first career while I'm in school to be a nurse?

We Answered:

There is no problem at all. In fact, it can be a very good way to get you through college. Just remember, bartending means typically late nights, so leave plenty of time for study and later in the day classes. Good luck.

Lynn Said:

Which is a better career--school counselor, or nurse?

We Answered:

A nurse is an extremely difficult, stressful job. My sister is a nurse and she's always very tired and stressed. There is some nice flexibility with regard to scheduling for nurses, though. My sister worked 3 day shifts a week, which was nice. They were 12 hour shifts, but she only worked 3 days a week.

School counseling can be a great job or a headache -- like all school positions, it depends entirely on the population of the student body and the quality of the administration. A cushy school in the suburbs is going to be an entirely different situation than an inner-city middle school. Be prepared for a stressful job as well -- dealing with student conflict, emotional and behavioral disorders, and a lot of angry parents who swear that you aren't doing enough for their kid. I am a teacher and I have a lot of respect for school counselors. All of us who choose to work with kids have our work cut out for us.

Edward Said:

What courses do i need to take to become a nurse? and what are the best schools for a career in nursing?

We Answered:

you can either go to a community college and study nursing there. You will receive an associate degree. You can also go to a university and study nursing there too. You will receive a bachelor's degree there. Both will prepare you to be an RN. Look into schools that offer nursing as a major. Most hospitals like it if you are an RN at least. Some don't care what degree you have, as long as you are an RN. Some hospitals will pay more for a bachelor's degree or a master's degree in nursing.

since you're still in high school, I recommend you take these courses:
AP psychology
AP English
AP statistics
AP chemistry

other courses that can help you are physiology, biology, sociology, communications, health, anatomy, and foreign languages. try to obtain some experience too. volunteering in a medical or health care related field will work well. community service will work too.

I took those courses and they helped me.
