Student Nurse job question?

We Answered:

You don't get paid for clinical rotations, because you are a student. It's not like a med-school residency. You could get a summer internship between your first and second year of school and get paid for that, but not for your regular clinicals for your course requirements.

You'll have to do what we all did to get in. . . either boost our admissions "points" for higher ranking, or wait it out - sometimes for years - to get in. Begging won't help. ;)

Living off student loans seems daunting, but it's an investment in your future. Student loan debt is good debt, not bad debt, and with your salary as an RN you'll be able to afford making those payments later.

Student Nurse job- nursing home. Interview advice?

We Answered:

I am a retired RN from the state of Texas. I know what a BSN degree is (a Bachelor of Science in Nursing), and a MSW degree (Master of Social Work), both degrees requiring diplomas and licenses to work in LTC (Long Term Facilities) which is now the politically correct term for nursing homes. At one time or other, I have held every nursing position in LTC facilities there are. I am unfamiliar with a PSW. RPN, and BScN degrees and/or titles for nursing personal in LTC or any other nursing enviroment for that matter. However, back to your question. LTC facilities work on very tight budgets and have very small profit lines. Therefore they are usually not able to have the nursing staff ratio found in acute care facilities. Also LTC facilities are hard to staff because nurses not only want to have better pay, but they want to be where the action is. Many nurses look at LTC facilities as places to go to die. Having said that, you can understand why LTC HR is anxious to talk to applicants. They want to snatch them before acute care facilities gets there hands on them; then they will be lost forever. So, during the interview I recommend you be honest at all cost, be positive and self assured with being cocky. and by all means, ask for the job. LTC facilities can be the most rewarding place on God's green Earth to work. Every day that I ever worked in LTC I felt fortunate to be alive and able to help the seniors to have a better life.

What is the job role of a student nursery nurse in a childcare setting?

We Answered:

depends which setting you go into, some students are used as skivvies and cleaners. a student nursery nurse is there to help the other staff with the day to day running of the nursery e.g feeding kids, playing with them, setting up activities. some nurseries allow students to do nappies but this varies at every setting. nursery nurses find it easier to have students tidying up after meals etc while they see to the children but dont let them take advantage you are there to learn.
