Travel Nurse Job

Leslie Said:

How does a traveling nurse job work?

We Answered:

You sign with an agency (or agencies) and you tell them where you prefer to work, and they offer you various contracts at different locations, and you choose where you want to go. It could be local, in state, or across the country. Sometimes your options are limited and you might not be thrilled with your choices. They provide transportation costs and housing / utilities costs when you are outstate and usually the contracts are anywhere from 6-20 weeks, but I think the most common is about 12-16 weeks.

You need at least 1 year regular hospital experience in medical / surgical, then if you plan on working in a specialty (OB, ER, OR, etc.) you will need experience in that area as well, because rarely is there training opportunities for travel nurses, you are expected to be competent.

My mom might take a job as a travel nurse in the UK next summer?

We Answered:

If you haven't already done so then something you are going to have to look into is that as you will be 18 you will not be classed as a dependent so you may have to get yourself a work permit before you would be allowed to stay here for more than 6 months, and you can't get one of those unless you have a skill that is in high demand here.

Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds are all worth looking into. Each one is in the north so are substantially cheaper to live in and each has a lively night scene

If i join the Navy Reserves can I get a civilian travel job?

We Answered:

No. You are locked in to drilling with your unit.. There is no way around this.
You see, each and every reserve unit has a manning table, there are so many people required for the mission to be accomplished. And this depends on everyone being available and rppresent for each and every drill.

Some units are flexible. That is, if you are unable to make it home for an occasional drill, for a valid reason, they will allow you to make up the time.
Otherwise, they expect you to be present.
