Jeremy Said:

what are the different types of nurses and what do they do?

We Answered:

LPN or LVN stands for Licensed Practical or Licensed Vocational Nurse. This type of nurse does not earn a degree, this is considered a "vocation" instead of a profession although hardworking LVN/LPNs out there may not agree with this assessment! If you have heard of vocational schools they generally teach a trade type of job like auto mechanics, welding, dental assisting, medical assisting, office work, etc. This program is generally 12-18 months long and they are required to pass the nursing board exam given by the state (NCLEX-PN). The job opportunities for this type of nursing are not as plentiful and pay is lower.

RN is a registered nurse and is considered more of a profession, you must obtain either an associates degree (2 yr) or a bachelor's degree (4 yr) then take the nursing board exam (NCLEX-RN) to obtain a license from the state you practice in. There is a nationwide shortage of RNs in the U.S. and opportunities, especially in the hospital setting are plentiful and pay is very good.

Michael Said:

What types of nurses are in high demand or will be in high demand?

We Answered:

ER, Intensive Care and most specialties will always be in demand. People are always gonna get sick and there is no substitute for a nurse. They can't use robots or outsource that job !!

Lois Said:

Different types of nursing?

We Answered:

In the UK, working for the National Health Service there are 4 main areas as you will see below.

The very first step towards becoming a registered nurse is choosing which of the four specialisms of nursing you would like to study – adults, children, learning disability or mental health.

Choosing what to study now doesn’t mean your future career path is fixed.
With support from your employer and additional training, you can often switch specialism after qualifying.

•adults
•children
•learning disability
•mental health.
