Types Of Nursing Jobs

Raul Said:

what are the different types of jobs in a nursing home?

We Answered:

I have lots of respect for nurses, they have a tricky job, but still many people are attracted to this career. I uncovered some good guidance on the site in the box below, it aided my sister to embark on the route to becoming a nurse, she is in her inaugural year of training now.

Jobs available for non licensed nursing graduates?

We Answered:

Work PRN as an RN....any other job would have the same hours as a nurse and you wouldn't get paid what you could as a nurse. I work with several RNs that, as a PRN employee, only need to work one 8 shift every 6 weeks. Get the license and don't waste that BSN.

Adam Said:

What types of jobs can you get as a RN at a psychiatric hospital?

We Answered:

You could do regular patient care, you could be a charge nurse after you get some experience, you could be a case manager / care coordinator, you could do education (for staff, patients, and families), you could be a nurse manager or a patient care supervisor of some kind, you could be a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and round on patients as a primary caregiver managing care instead of or in cooperation with a physician. I listed these opportunities from least experience / lowest education needed to highest. Regular care and charge nurses can be Assoc. Degree or BSN level RNs. Usually case mgmt, nurse mgrs require a BSN. Nurse educators usually hold a Master's degree, but some jobs might only require a BSN. CNS and NP require a Master's degree for now, and will require a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in a few years from now.

Take everything one step at a time. Get your RN license and work as a staff nurse in psych, continue your education and move up the ladder into mgmt if that's what you're interested in doing. Good luck!
