Why Nursing As A Career Essay
Kirk Said:
Any Advice from Nurses?We Answered:
Ok, so I am a nurse whom is currently a full time momma, but I will do my best to answer your questions!1. I worked in a private nursing and rehab center
2. midnights
3. About $35,000, don't remember exactly
4. I loved the patients, doing my best to make their lives a little better.
5. The lack of respect some of the nurses/aids have for the elderly/ill/in pain...they act like they are being bothered to help make someone comfortable or just keep them company if they are lonely. I hate when nurses/aids talk to the elderly as if they are children...
6. I have my LPN, did that first so I could work and have my employer pay for my RN...I plan on doing that next year or so..
7. There is always something new to learn in medicine...especially medications, you can take continuing education courses at most schools and online. Also, you may need to brush up on your writing skills, charting is very, very important, misspellings and poor english are not acceptable.
8. I applied many places...they are the only ones interested in a new nurse with no experience! There was no bonus, aside from a dollar/ hour for working midnights, a $10/week perfect attendance bonus (one second late on the time clock made you late!), and you could be reimbursed for continuing your education after one year's employment.
9. About three weeks to hire.
10. Absolutely!
Good luck!

Any nurses in tonight?We Answered:
Good Grief. Here I am trolling at 1:30 AM & you want me to be awake...like in school? Now? Oh, well. I'll give it a shot.1)Retired, on disability. Over 45 years experience including Med-Surg, Hospital, ER,ICU,CCU,Supervision,Burn Unit, Private Duty, Prison(yeah, that's what I said),Nursing Home, and last 12 years in Hospice 2) Preferred nights but did all 3 shifts over the years 3) $52,000 4) Last job in hospice did night shift on-call. Worked hours when office was closed, basically from 5 PM to 8 AM. Handled emergencies with Hospice patients. Mostly pain management, assessments, & pronouncements.Liked giving support to families and patients in the last stages.5)Nothing except more money 6) Only choices at the time in the 60s was secretary, teacher, nurse or get married.Went to 2 year RN college assoc. program with no degree. Went back for my BS 7)Retired disability/back injury 8)Was in home town poor benefits really now that I think about it. Was convenient though 9)Was working as a GN at home hospital until RN then left 10)Probably would have gone into teaching. They've got really great benefits & nursing really doesn't.Nursing really does not have a strong "union" to stand up for the individual nurse.I've seen good nurses pushed out of their jobs when they tried to stand up for themselves or their patients which is why I refused to go back to hospital nursing. One nurse was short staffed & told administration she would refuse to accept the floor unless she got help. She was right cause I was there as an agency nurse to help out & I knew how bad the floor was. They told her to either take the floor or be terminated (she was in the bathroom crying about it) She stayed that shift & wound up leaving.Sad.Another nurse, different hospital. This one was another RN, good nurse 6 mos. pregnant on unit with 30 patients usually with another nurse LPN & 2 aides.Hospital nurses trying to get union started.Admin. got her name as leader of group. They cut her staffing to her & one aide. She quit.Places where nurses tried to get staffing rules set- they were ignored.ICU/CCU only units they had to do it.I think it's the lack of respect that always concerned me which is why I preferred to work alone on nights.I was my own boss with only the patients to care for. 11) Do your own interview, honey. It's almost 2 AM, but then I always was a night owl. Good luck.Jose Said:
