Accredited Occupational Therapy Programs

Ricky Said:

brown mackie or university of phoenix?

We Answered:

It's hard to say which school is more useless. Some would say Brown Mackie, because only one of the 22+ Brown Mackie campuses has regional accreditation. Others point to U of Phoenix being even worse because of its greater notoriety. (Incidentally, it is not trie that U of Phoenix is "fully accredited." Many UoPhoenix degrees lack programmatic accreditation).

I think it's a toss-up. You can't do much worse with either school. Employers have been known to throw any job applications listing U of Phoenix or Brown Mackie degrees directly into the trash.

Become an Occupational Therapist but not finish school to get my masters?

We Answered:

Im almost in my second year for OTA.

In order to be eligible to sit for the NBCOT certification examination, one must graduate from an ACOTE-accredited program.

What happens to the students who are in a program with Developing Program Status if it is not accredited?
The students will have earned the course/credit hours taken but are not eligible for the certification examination. To be eligible for the certification examination, those students would need to transfer to a program that is accredited and complete that program's requirements for graduation. Credits from the unaccredited program may or may not be accepted by another program.

What would you do.... private or public?

We Answered:

Is the "well known" school well known because it has a great OT program or because of unrelated reasons? If it's the latter, I really don't see how going to that school will be more beneficial than going to the public school unless you have a non-academic reason (e. g. location) to prefer it. If it really does have an amazing program, I might consider that school, but ultimately, as long as you get the experience, you will become a good OT. It doesn't hurt to minimize your educational debt! Good luck!
