Becoming An Occupational Therapist

Kent Said:

What to Major in when becoming an Occupational Therapist?

We Answered:

I know a lot of people that planned on going to PT/OT school the declared their major in either Dietetics or Nutrition. These have a lot of the same prerequisites that will help you in becoming a OT.
The plan you have sounds like a good one though. Try talking to people in all of these fields at your university to see what they think. They usually offer good advice to those willing to ask for it and listen.
Good luck with everything!

Benjamin Said:

Should I become an Occupational Therapist or is an assistant pretty much the same?

We Answered:

Take a look at the site, "indeed.com". Check out the forums for OT and OTAs. You can learn lots, there, plus you can ask questions or actual professionals. One word of advice, though. Many people who voice opinions on forums like these tend to use them to "vent"...the system, bad boss, stress, etc...In other words, they are unhappy and wish to "warn" others to stay away. If what excites you is OT or PT or OTA, don't be discouraged. With what little information you've given about yourself, no one could possibly tell you what's best for you!

It doesn't count you have to get a bachelors. I was going to do the PTA program before getting my Masters in PT and they said it didn't count and they don't look at it.

Most high schools have a school counselor (social worker) who might be able to provide that type of information for you or at least give you the contact you would need in order to speak to someone about this professional choice.
