Who are you advocating to? Potential students?If so, I would suggest that the best advocacy would be to point out the diversity of career options available. Most students considering OT are trying to decide between OT and PT and often end up picking PT because of perceptions of respectability etc.
In truth, once you are a PT there is nothing else to do, you are a PT. You can work in somebody else's practice or your own but that's about it.
OT's however, work in an incredibly diverse number of fields and are needed in some of the most unlikely places (e.g. police departments often have OT's on staff, insurance companies need OT's for a variety of reasons in a variety of departments, etc).

My mom is one, has been for 10 yrs. Started with Boces in NY, was close to being laid off, so we moved to NC, where they are in HIGH HIGH demand and get paid VERY VERY well. She makes like 50-60k a yr. and she always says theyre desperate for good OTs. Teachers also... they offer lateral entry for teachers down here... meaning if you have a degree in english but not a teaching, you just have to take the PRAXIS exam and you can teach english. Do a search for OT jobs down here, you'll find a TON!!! Its an awesome place to live and living costs are VERY low compared to NY.I think she had to take math, but not much... I just remember her taking alot of biology/gross anatomy classes as she'd talk about the stuff she'd have to disect.
