Penny Said:

Is there a benefit to naming a child's developmental delay?

We Answered:

A great benefit to having an ASD diagnosis is not only the services, but the legal boundaries your school has, the legal rights your child has and the fact that your child will never ever be in BD due to the ASD spectrum. There is so much help for children with ASD and EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY. There isn't a cure, it's unknown if Autsim should even be considered a disease.. but, training the ASD child to learn what they are lacking to function in this odd world we live in, you need that diagnosis. Plus, as you receive services, you are opening up doors for other parents that may need the services but are afraid to step into that light with their child. When you deny your child's problem and refuse services, you are hurting chances of your district to obtain services for other kids that may need it, making it more difficult and a larger fight for those who want the services. Plus, it's easier to take away services that you already have now, than to get them later after it's been too late for the intervention and services needed. You have nothing to lose with services and a lot to gain. Children aren't cured of ASD, but, they learn to control their behaviors, the learn appropriate social maneurisms and they are more guaranteed to be independent later in life.

*** Did I mention free services???*** The school (if public) is obligated, by law, to provide services to your child so that your child gets the education he needs, presented to him in a way he can learn, in the utmost way you want them to, in order for him to be successful. I suggest you use words like LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT.

Do NOT be afraid to fight for your son. There are limited programs out there. Ask to observe the recommended classrooms for him... if you don't agree, you don't have to place them there. Feel free to email me, I will be more than happy to assist with supporting you in any way possible. Depending on where you are located... I bet I can offer a ton of great resources for you to consider!!!

Sheesh I wish I can stop thinking of other benefits LOL

It is good to obtain the services in the school... cause don't forget, with ASD there is a social aspect that the ASD student must learn... and what best way is there other than practice??? Practice with and OT, social worker and Speech therapist will also help to promote better chances of social accomplishments.

If you can, try to have your child mainstreamed with a classroom aid. This way your child has the influence of normal day to day children. If your child requires a more restrictive environment, push that the child at least have their "socials" or classes that don't have a lot of "down time", where your child will not disrupt a study (i.e. gym, music, art) so that he can have a chance to associate with normal kids... to know that flapping, humming, spinning etc are not appropriate. ASD tend to like to blend in with their environmnets so that they aren't "standing out" and being noticed. Even though socially they are less appropriate, doesn't mean that they don't want to appear and be like the other kids.

?Krystal?'s C&A Anime Survey 40?

We Answered:

Yay! I can't wait for more surveys! C&A is kind of boring without surveys so the more the merrier! ^_^

1. (a) Has anime or manga ever stemmed another interest for you? (eg. watching an anime about fashion made you interested in fashion or sports etc etc.)

>>i watched .hack//Roots and i found the idea of an anime having the main character playing as a character in an mmorpg was really interesting since i like video games. then i found out that the original was a video game called .hack//G.U. so i bought all three games. the video game is AMAZING.

(b) The anime/manga you stated above, did you actually enjoy it? (detailed answer please :D)

>>no, not really. i haven't even finished it yet even though there's only about 20-30 episodes in total. the reason being is that it moves too slowly and it seems as if nothing happens in the episodes. like i just wasted 20 minutes of my life. and the fights are comical since they are sooo bad. the video game is much much much better.

2. What makes your favourite anime/manga stand out? (consider why it is better than others or the same type and why it appeals to you!)

>>My favorite anime is Code Geass. i found it extremely interesting because it had everything that i could possibly want in an anime: action, psychological thriller, romance, comedy, good storyline, plot twists, good characters/relationships/development, and a hot main character (Lelouch).

3. How would you describe an anime/manga that allows you to "escape from reality"? (this might be a difficult question to answer but I think it might be interesting to compare answers here xD)

>>anime takes me into another realm. what's so neat about anime is that nothing is impossible. and i can escape and explore the lives of interesting characters and be immersed in an interesting story.

Optional Bonus Question::
>> Where do you see yourself in ten years? (it interests me okay >.<'')

>>hopefully i'll be a journalist writing for an online newspaper or being a broadcast journalist. i might also be writing for a regular newspaper, but i prefer online or broadcast. and i hope i'll be very happy. and i'll still be watching anime and playing video games. :)

Edit: oops forgot to copy&paste this part. hehe.

>> More importantly how are things going with all of you!? XD

>>everything's pretty good. i started school last week so im getting used to being in school again. i miss summer, but its nice to see my friends every day. and im a senior now! woot! im actually quite happy about my classes this year and the homework load isn't too bad. last year was a pure nightmare. -_-
