What you should do is call your local hospital, and ask if you can visit the OT department. They can answer all of your questions, and show you what it is that they do.Here is a list of OT schools:

If you are an OT, it's my guess that you'll be doing therapy with patients, not guidance counseling. You'll be making splints, helping people adapt to injury or illness with their activities of daily living, working with autistic kids or stroke survivors... that kind of thing.
