With OTA, the job may be both physically and mentally draining even though also rewarding as a cousin had gone to school for OTA. Most jobs are found in nursing homes (long-term care facilities) dealing with residents (called 'residents' instead of patients since most, unfortunately, 'reside' or live there) that have had a stroke ("brain attack") which is a type of brain injury, dementia, had a hip replacement or hip fracture, someone with an amputated limb or other medical problems.

Perhaps you can observe/job shadow in the various areas that an ota may work including the local hospital, nursing home, physical rehabilitation hospital (that treats patients with traumatic brain injury/tbi, stroke, spinal cord injury/paralysis or other conditions), a pediatric hospital, outpatient center, psychiatric facility or such.

If considering any of those trades/fields, please look into the more affordable (county vo-tech school) community college (or county vo-tech school) as opposed to those private expensive for-profit tech schools as long as the program is accredited within the industry.

both are hard to get into and some have a waiting list for acceptance. If I were you, I would go for the PTA. Only because there are more job openings for the PTA's :)
