It really depends on what you want to do, but an OT degree offers more work options than a teaching degree. As an OT you can work in the school system, open a private practice, work for a doctor's office, rehab facility, nursing home, hospital, and more. You'll typically make more than a teacher does, and you'll usually have a little more freedom and autonomy than a teacher.

If you become an OT you can also get teaching certification through an alternative certification program.

Being a special education teacher has been a terrific career for me, and I've really enjoyed it, BUT... the requirements and paperwork are increasing, and it's very easy to get burned out quickly, especially depending on which disability/subject/grade level you choose to teach.

Why don't you talk to and shadow both a SPED teacher and OT and see which one you prefer? They can answer specific questions and you can see firsthand what goes on in real life.

They help people who have had strokes, brain damage from accidents, and surgeries to relearn how to do things we need to do in everyday life.
Example: using the toilet,washing dishes, etc.
This takes alot of college, but is a good career.

i do not know if there is an actual cost. Some people just naturally go to more than others. Not all states have requirements. I spend about 2,000 a year. I know people who spend about 100. I try to go to 2-3 weekend courses a year. They are between 400-600 a weekend plus travel ect. My employer remiburses a small amount.

OT is a great profession with lots of jobs. Where I live *NYS) they are lay off with teachers both regular and special education.

To become an OTR-you need to go for 5-or 6 years.
Teachers require a BS degree and often a MS degree. So 6 years.
