You can get them kind of credentials at a city college. If you want a good paying therapist job then you'll need a four year college degree in psychology directing towards special courses that will guide you to work with the type of patients you wish to work with.

Let's say that you want to be a occupational therapist in a mental heath ward for adults in a private hospital. During the course of your senior year you'll do work experience at places like that for credit. In most cases it's about three hundred hours of experience.

If you want to do the same thing but work with kids instead, then you could do your work experience at a children's home or someplace like that. No you don't need med school unless you decide to go to graduate school for a directors position of a facility or something like that.
