Occupational Therapy Activities For Children
Marcia Said:
Is there any parent of a learning disability child out there? We Answered:
I want you to read about two people--Bill Sackter and Helen Keller.Bill was born to an unwed mother and left in the care of his elderly grandmother. When she was no longer able to care for him she placed him in an institution for the mentally retarded. Bill only had a very mild learning disability but because he was raised around others with severe disabilities and treated as tho he was like the other children, Bill failed to progress to his fullest potential.
Helen was both blind and deaf. Although her family loved her very much they took pity on her and assumed she would always be dependent on them for her care. When her teacher noticed her abilities and expected Helen to learn what other children her age were learning Helen excelled. Helen became a fantastic writer, married, and changed our views on those with disabilities.
You keep trying with your daughter. Involve her in every activity. I believe that all of us have the ability to do what ever makes us happy. Even if the route we take to get there isn't the same as everyone else's.
