Occupational Therapy Assistant Schools

Willie Said:

Should I go to school to be a Lpn or Occupational therapy assistant ?

We Answered:

Well, it depends if you like nursing or not. It does pay fairly well (but not spectacular) and has job security, but it is not a very glamorous career. It is hard physical labor and often thankless work. Your hours may be long. You may be always understaffed and overworked. You may work with shallow, b!tchy, unhappy women. The ideals that they teach you in the theory world of nursing school almost never applies to when you hit the floor running. Sure many nurses *think* they can always get a desk job, but it's between you and how many others fighting for it. Also, you typically need many years of clinical nursing experience first.

I can almost guarantee that anyone going into nursing as an easy career choice to make big money will hate it and be burnt out within 5 years.

So unless you are sure you would love being a nurse, then I would seriously consider another career. Techs can make great money. Working in a lab, as an x-ray tech, or a cardiology or respiratory tech can be very fun and challenging...and none of the drawbacks of nursing. Where I live, LPNs have a 2 year diploma, and there is no such thing as OT assistants (it's a 4 year OT degree), but if you go for the OT Assistant, you can always go into Physical Therapy (some credits may transfer) or go for your OT degree.

You have lots of options. I don't mean to discourage you from nursing, but most people will not be as honest as I have with you. The illusion of text book nursing and what 90% of nursing jobs are *really* like are not always the same. ;)

If you can, meet with a counsellor in your school to discuss your abilities and options.

Good luck!

Occupational Therapy Assistant Schools Near me?

We Answered:

look for national Occupation Therapy Association (AOTA.org)? on web .
u will find info on the trade.
visit ur local community colleges in areas and find out if they have a course.
if they don't , contact state's OT's site and locate com college near u . pay cash - normally a two yr program.
check salary.com for info of incomes in ur local area.

as for 'children party planner' that is a discretionary income item and in most areas now a day 'discretionary income' is not in existence. so u may stave the first five yrs.

I am looking for occupational therapy assistant online school

We Answered:

you can't become a COTA with an online school. you need hands on practice, experience, and interships. you can upgrade online from a BS to a MA or even PHD once you've become an OTR, but you CAN NOT become a COTA with an online course. sorry.

Rodney Said:

How much do cotas (occupational therapy assistants) make in schools in florida versus adult rehabs?

We Answered:

try www.salary.com and type in your area code, there are some ads you will have to skip over but it will show you the pay for each OT and COTA in different work settings.

Actually the registered occupational therapist makes in the annual average of $60,000 while the COTA is about 35- 45,000 annually. In the long run it really adds up. So choose wisely
