Occupational Therapy in Australia?

We Answered:

Apply for all the Government grants you are entitled to. Go to the University and get more information about Occupational Therapy.

The Occupational Performance Model in Australia is known as the OPM(A). At the core of this approach is the ideology (belief) that occupational therapists are concerned with the occupations of people and how these contribute to health. The goal is to help clients have independent, productive and satisfying lives.

As part of Occupational Therapy Week 2009, in Canterbury Christ Church 1st year students created a comprehensive presentation to promote some of the fundamental roles of Occupational Therapists. This link is a PowerPoint presentation "What is OT?"

Get as much schooling as you can and find all the grant money available. Grants don't have to be paid back, and there are many out there. You can apply at your school...

Good luck.

transfering or changing university in australia?

We Answered:

Given that occupational therapy is not taught at the University of Adelaide - this might be a bit hard to do.

Going to uni in australia from canada. Which one and why?

We Answered:

i think either Sydney University or Melbourne University
because those 2 are the best in Australia, i go to Sydney University and its got a great atmosphere and it has a lot of facilities but Melbourne is pretty good to.
In terms of Weather, Sydney is warmer than Melbourne, both have good beaches as well. Sydney probably has better beaches and scenery but Melbourne has more culture. If you want the cheaper alternative you can try Wollongong or Newcastle and there universities, not as good as Sydney or Melbourne but still they are universities, in distance, Wollongong is roughly an Hour from Sydney and Newcastle is about 1 and 1/2 - 2 hours from Sydney, both have Great Beaches.

Occupational Therapy or Podiatry or Physiotherapy Australia?

We Answered:

Hi, I'm a student at the university of western Sydney. We had one lecture a couple of months back about transferring into either physiotherapy/podiatry/occupational therapy courses at our university. This applies to any student who is eligible for entry into these courses after 1 year of university study if they didn't initially get accepted. If you get an offer to do a bachelor of health science/bachelor of sports and exercise science at the university of western Sydney, you can finish one year and transfer provided you get a GPA (grade point average) of 4.5 (pass-credit average) for podiatry/occupational therapy and a GPA of 5 (credit-distinction average) and above for physiotherapy (very competitive). You can then apply for exemptions so you don't have to start from first year but you will still be behind by a few subjects. Just check the ATAR requirements for bachelor of health sciences/bachelor of sports and exercise science at the university of western Sydney and see how it works out. Best of luck in the HSC!!!

Karl Said:

Can you please tell me how to become certified as a recreational or occupational therapist in australia?

We Answered:

Before an Occupational Therapist can apply for Australian immigration, they must have their skills assessed by the Occupational Therapy Council (Australia & New Zealand). It appears that the migration skills assessment process is a Desktop Audit of your qualifications.

Registration is required in the state or territory in which you intend practising - for full registration, a Practice Audit is undertaken when you have secured employment. Links to the OTC and state registration bodies can be found on the following skills recognition page of the immigration website:
