Occupational Therapy Courses

Bill Said:

What university program would i need to get into occupational therapy? There is no specific course in my are?

We Answered:

It depends on the policies of the OT programs you might like to attend. Check their web sites to see what their pre-requisites are, then choose a major that you enjoy that will include some of the pre-requisites.

Some possibilities might be biology, kinesiology, psychology, etc. As long as you take the pre-requisites and get good grades, your major does not really matter.

Peggy Said:

Occupational therapy with the elderly?

We Answered:

I used to work at a college that had an occupational therapy program. I am not sure if there is a master's dealing specifically with the elderly or not. Mostly I think they work with displaced people and disabled people. But you can probably find out some good information on the internet.

I do know that Occupational Therapy is a very competitive and difficult course of study.

Charlene Said:

Can anyone give me any advice about Occupational Therapy?

We Answered:

Some people like to work with kids and hate older folks. Others like older folks and not kids.

It's up to you to determine which area of OT you want to enter.

Beth Said:

Should I change course?? Occupational Therapy to Physiotherapy?

We Answered:

If you're seriously thinking of dropping out, and you'd be happier, then do it. Give yourself some breathing space and time to think.

Physio isn't your only option though- and there's lots of unemployed physios in the UK at the moment. Look into podiatry, chiropractic, osteopathy, even speech therapy or nursing.

Or you could do an anatomy or physiology degree and then take a post grad course in physio, or OT or nursing if you work hard enough.

Maybe get some work experience even if it's in a care home. And perhaps try to organising some work shadowing with various professions.

There isn't any race to get a career started. Do what's right for you now.
