Occupational Therapy Employment

Crystal Said:

What career would be more in demand dental hygiene or occupational therapy ?

We Answered:

The opportunity depends on the city you live in...both require some decent math and science skills to graduate. Just study hard on those subjects. BTW why are you going into a medical-field if you're no good at Science anyway? Most people that are stronger in math and science go into those fields.

Dilemma: Occupational Therapy or Psychology Degree?

We Answered:

They are very different degrees! You obviously have a favourite choice so I'd suggest you go for that. Get psychology experience and get involved at uni and you might be a lucky one that gets a job.

Dont do OT if you dont really want to, its not the course or job you can do half-heartedly. And the work of OTs currently, probably wouldnt excite somebody that wants to be a psychologist. Think of the long-term.

Follow your dream and do psychology!!

I need info on OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY...?

We Answered:

"What is occupational therapy?"

Occupational Therapy is about Basket Weaving with people who barely know you're in the room. In many states, it's not much more than a part-time job a little above minimum wage.

Curtis Said:

Anyone studying Occupational Therapy Masters degree? or BS (Hons)?

We Answered:

I did a MS in OT just a few years ago. It was WAY MORE work then undergrad ever was! It was very challenging course work for me and I had been an easy A student in undergrad. There is tons of work out there for OT's right now, so employment is easy post graduation and certification. Most programs required six months of full-time unpaid clinical internships for program completion and graduation- this is something to start planning for when you begin your program of study. It would be really hard to work outside of your clinical placement (and classes) during those last six months. Good luck on your interest in OT.

knowing spanish look good for careers?

We Answered:

Absolutely this would be helpful. Whether it will add to your pay is uncertain but it will make it easier to get a job. Anything that adds to your skill set is good for your career.

Does anyone know about recreational therapy?

We Answered:

There are many job possibilities for working with those with disabilities as services and opportunities for them are improving. Many metropolitan areas have recreation commissions that have many programs tailored to those with disabilities and are always needing educated people to take the helm. Unfortunately, a career in therapeudic recreation does not pay what it should and as a result, many who would like to do it, can't.
