Occupational Therapy Graduate Programs

Kathy Said:

Letters of recommendation for Occupational Therapy graduate school?

We Answered:

It is not impossible but it makes admission more difficult./

Vicki Said:

Occupational Therapy program?

We Answered:

In most graduate programs, one word rules: PUBLISH !
You said you are a research assistant. If you did work that contributed to a study or paper being published in a reputable appropriate journal, see that your name is included with the authors. Even if it's not the same program, use it. Or get involved with a study that is to be published. Express your interest in doing work that will be published.
Use the work 'publish' every chance you get. Publishing carries heavy weight with peers in your field. Why? Because these things generate funding for the school and professional credibility for you. In fact check out SJS and USC to find out who's working on what in your field that is intended to be a published study. Express your interest in working in these areas. Grad programs are very competitive - everybody has good grades. You have to set yourself apart from the typical applicant.
Good luck.

Agnes Said:

Would applying to different graduate programs at the same school look bad?

We Answered:

they may depending on the college, no it would not look bad, it is just letting them know that you are still leaving your options open.

Willard Said:

Can I get into an Occupational Therapy graduate program with a low GPA?

We Answered:

no

April Said:

what would be best to major in before Occupational Therapy graduate school?

We Answered:

There ARE schools with Bachelor's degrees in OT. I know for a fact that at least some of the SUNY schools have that program. You should get a graduate school guidebook to find out what majors are most often admitted to OT grad school, or go to the websites of OT programs you're interested in and see what they give as their requirements.

Rhonda Said:

Entrance into Occupational Therapy Graduate Programs?

We Answered:

OT school is quite difficult to get accepted into as there are only so many seats available and a lot of applicants that have really competitive GPAs. The field also may be both mentally and physically draining.
