what are the neurological complications of cerebral malaria?

We Answered:

habtu - Neurologic effects have been reported in children but have not been described in detail in adults. The most striking findings were neuropsychological disorders, in particular memory impairment and diffuse white matter damage on magnetic resonance imaging. Only three of the patients had made a full recovery after 6 months.
In adults, sequelae are less common, and range from 3–10% in prevalence in India, 10% of adults had neurological sequelae on discharge, including psychosis (4%), cerebellar ataxia (3%), and extrapyramidal rigidity or hemiplegia.45 The depth and duration of coma and multiple convulsions were independent risk factors for neurological sequelae.

Subtle deficits (for example, cognitive difficulties, language and behavior problems) are increasingly recognized, and have been documented in 24% of children after recovery from cerebral malaria. The prevalence of these impairments in adults or after other forms of severe malaria is not known, because of lack of long-term follow-up studies with neuropsychological examinations.
Continue to exercise and remain active.

Whats your opinion on this chat I had with a Psychologist?

We Answered:

It really sounds like you are outraged at having this label thrown on you when you do not feel that it is a good fit. She should have been more considerate when demonstrating her concern to you, but I am not entirely sure if I can blame her for her statements either. An occupational therapist should not be diagnosing psychological disorders unless they have had specific training, and in this case a body dysmorphic disorder is an incorrect diagnosis.

That is unless you have one specific feature of your body that you are completely fixated on, and hate (IE: Nose, Eyes, Ears, Toes). Bodyweight is not considered to be a specific feature and is more commonly linked with an eating disorder. The use of laxatives to control weight would also raise my eyebrows in this instance, and would be a source of instant concern for me.

That does not necessarily mean you have an eating disorder, especially if you have quit, but it would also be the first direction I would look as well.

Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted,

Sadly, you are going to need to know a high level math for all of the careers you listed above.
Try being a nurse, it's less schooling and you don't need as high of a level in math.

But my recommendation is for you to take calculus. When you get to college, freshman year you are going to have to take calculus. But if you can, take it in high school.
