Occupational Therapy In Mental Health

We Answered:

Hi there,

Going on the descriptors you have given, I would agree with the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

The problem there is with a diagnosis of a personality disorder is that there are 10 recognisably different personality disorders (That is 10 which are recognised within the diagnostic manuals ICD 10 and the DSM 1V). Because of this, there will often be an overlap in symptomology - for example, Aloofness, anger outbursts etc.

PTSD - there is a possibility that the trauma you have suffered in the past have, in some way helped shape your personality. If one is in a situation where there trust has been tested time and again then it would be understandable for that person to have difficulty in trusting anybody.

Schizophrenia - I wouldn't think that you have schizophrenia alongside BPD, though some of the symptoms are similar I have not come across anybody with a diagnosis of BPD and schizophrenia co-existing (Not saying it impossible, moreover I would suggest its improbable)

Autism - Again, something such as autism would in most cases most definitely have been picked up when you where a child so I would think it highly unlikely.

Hope this is helpful, best wishes
