Occupational Therapy Personal Statement

Peter Said:

Do I disclose my Bipolar disorder?

We Answered:

My husband is bipolar and is currently taking meds regulary. They have gotten his life on track. But from what I have seen, when he was applying for a job, there was a stigma attached. He would put down he was bipolar, and right away they assumed he would not be dependable, or be violent..not an ideal employee...so if it was between him and someone else applying, my husband would lose the opportunity to someone else. My opinion is that your illness is your business and no one else's.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and congrats on getting your life together.

Ask a teacher to read it.
They'll probably find something that is less relevant.

Rebecca Said:

how to write an Occupational Therapy UCAS personal statement?

We Answered:

What have you done to prepare for it.

What are your goals.

What have you accomplished.

This is the part of the application where you can brag all you want. =]

Make them BELIEVE that you want to study the course you wish to study.

By the way, what Uni's are you applying to? =) I'm starting my UCAS soon as well.

Nina Said:

what are the most important things that i put into my personal statement for university i am really stuck!!?

We Answered:

Structure around this way.

- Why applying to x university - because of the tutors and the college life (DON'T MENTION SPECIFIC SUBJECT YOU APPLIED FOR)
- Why interested in therapy in general.
- Why interested in therapy in the workplace and in sports arena (AGAIN DON'T MENTION THE SPECIFIC SUBJECT YOU'RE APPLYING FOR)
- What have you learnt in your current studies that will allow you to suceed - what skills have you gained to equip you for the academic rigour of the course. Go through each subject (e.g. maths given me rigorous mind)
- What your extra-curricular interests are.
- Conclusion

It should also be about 300 words long.

Veronica Said:

College diversity and disability?

We Answered:

Well I don't think that think that diversity is cr*p. But here is my opinion. Having a disability is a form of diversity therefore I think you can disclose that you have a disability but not exactly what it is. Telling your personal story will help you stand out among all the applications the selection committee is reading. Your personal story may also help you connect with your patients that have a disability.
