Sherry Said:

Types Of Services In Occupational Therapy?

We Answered:

You were observing in a medical/surgical OT setting (as opposed to a rehab or outpatient setting).
...it might also be considered "acute" (although where I work, we consider "acute" to be the inpatient rehab unit and med/surg to be the hospital).

Donald Said:

When should a occupational therapy be put in a IEP. My son has had a IEP for 2 yrs.?

We Answered:

Not all test are done immediately as some immaturities sort themselves out-all children develop at different rates and they arent all associated with Special Educational Needs...can just be background, homelife, personality etc so children are often left and just observed for a while to see if they naturally 'catch up'...then when they are older they are more formally monitored and support is set up.

Some support isnt suitable too easrly as children may not have the understand, the abilities etc to deal with so many adults fussing and fidgetting and may not be able to achieve the IEP targets at that time!

The services will depend on: the area you live in, the funding around you, the age services cater for, the knowledge of those around you of whats available, the training of professionals, how many people are on the waiting list etc etc.
