Occupational Therapy Training

Donna Said:

Are you can occupational therapy assistant?

We Answered:

My daughter is, and all your questions are thumbs up! She loves her job and that's all that matters to her.
She does make a lot of money and have 3 to 4 days on and the rest off. She took and graduated form a tech school and went to work at our local hospital before she graduated.
I hope the best for you.

Good pre major for occupational therapy school?

We Answered:

Kineseology/Physical Education would be one. Biology would be another. Nursing would be a third. Social work could fit though it is not usually considered a pre-major and usually has less to do with physical world that OT works with. Psychology is always a good one. Sociology and Anthropology would also fit. Communication would help. DA

Career training to work in area of sexual therapy or surrogate ?

We Answered:

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I know that you will need lincensure to work with clients in a therapy setting. This means at least a master's level degree in psychology. Now, there is hope. That is just for my state (IL) and it may be different elsewhere. To get your license you have to complete a pre-set amount of hours in essentially an internship after you have received your bachelor's degree. This could be paid or un-paid, depends on who you get in with. After that, it's a state board test.

For classes, I would suggest all the basic psychology courses along with any feminine/sex studies offered at the school. Also, look into sociology classes invovling gender. As a bonus, you may also have to take some anatomy/health classes.

Does the field of occupational therapy involve blood?

We Answered:

Unless there is an accident (pt cuts self, a dressing falls off, etc), you typically don't come in contact with blood. You may come in contact with other bodily fluids -I have had urine on me and saliva, so in any case you may come in contact with fluids you should always where gloves.

Edna Said:

does the field of occupational therapy involve blood?

We Answered:

Hi my sister is an OT and other than possibly seeing blood at uni (during common first year human biology studies) you will usually not see or come in contact with blood. OT's are highly skilled health care practitioners involved with rehabilitation and other forms of patient care.
In your day to day work you will not come into contact with blood, except if there is an accident where a patient might have cut or hurt themselves.
