Occupational Therapy University Courses

Ross Said:

Going to University as a mature student - what's it like?

We Answered:

It will be tougher with children because they may not be old enough to understand mummy's academic crises. Try to organise yourself some backup for times of emergency. If they are young enough to go to bed early then you could ask your colleagues on the course to come to your house/flat rather than going to theirs.

Courses vary, you only have to be in the university when you have classes BUT as an Occupational Therapist you will also be attending clinics, first to observe and then to work with patients, and then you could be keeping normal office hours.

Many universities avoid classes on Wednesday afternoon but this may not apply to clinical courses. Talk to your university about the possibility of help with childcare. Provision varies widely as does the cost but do ask. If you can afford it try to have a decent internet connection at home because many universities now have an internal web-space accessed by a separate password, where lots of academic resources are available and this would enable you to do some types of work from home. However, some parts of the course will not be accessible this way because eventually you will be dealing with patients and their problems and that doesn't come over so well on-line. You also don't get the same interaction.

Hope this helps and you enjoy your studies.
