Occupational Therapy What Is

Frank Said:

What are the differences between Occupational Therapy and a Social Worker?

We Answered:

If you know what an OT does, you understand how they help someone regain function.

A social worker is more of a consultant and/or counselor. They help people obtain their social needs...be it emotional support, support with their personal needs (finding food, clothing, medication).

Some social workers work more in a "counselor" type of role. They may work in schools, work in a clinic, etc. Other social workers may work for a hospital arranging for needs of the patient (preparing them for discharge by referring them to different resources such as home health agencies, DME providers, etc), or they may work for agencies such as a senior services facility helping clients sort out their bills, apply for aid, etc.

Agnes Said:

what is the importance of biology to occupational therapy?

We Answered:

OT is a medical/healthcare career, which means you need to know the functions & physiological processes of the human body in relation to whatever disease/injury the OT is working with...and all that has root in biology.
