Physical Occupational Therapy

Roland Said:

What can I do with a kinesiology/exercise science degree besides physical or occupational therapy???

We Answered:

Get your professional trainer certificate and work out of a gym that uses personal trainers, my gym has about 10 on staff as independent contractors at $100/hr. The trainers have personal packages like 10 sessions for $700.
Or just take a year and get a play job so you can have some fun while you earn some money It might be the last timme in your life to do this

Sally Said:

What's the difference between physical and occupational therapy?

We Answered:

Physical therapy (also physiotherapy) is a health profession that assesses and provides treatment to individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life.

Occupational therapy promotes health by enabling and teaching people to perform meaningful and purposeful occupations. http://www.aota.org/

Whats the difference between Physical and Occupational Therapy?

We Answered:

There are similarities and differences...first of all, they are both concerned with the restoration of function. For physical therapy it generally includes gross motor skills such as walking, throwing a ball, being able to lift heavy things at work without pain.

Occupational therapy focuses on the "occupation of living" this typically requires fine motor tasks such as hand and finger coordination, planning for skills such as preparing a meal, or reducing environmental sensitivity.

The types of patients PTs might see include those with back pain, knee surgery, MS, spinal cord injury. They will focus on reducing pain, restoring strength and mobility, transfers, etc.

OTs can work with individuals with sensory integration disorders, may evaluate someone's ability to drive a car, put on their clothes, etc.
