Darlene Said:

What do you do when your not sure who's your friend and who's your enemy in life ?

We Answered:

If you'll have me then I am your friend.
I am not out to decieve you.
I have no intentions other than to stand firm in the friendship and not be shaken by your mistrust.
I am not your enemy.
I do not feel sorry for you.
I will not intrude.
I will not let you down.
And I will not go away unless I'm sure that's what you want.

Do musicians double major?

We Answered:

Yes, the college I went to has MOST student double majoring. We have a rigorous conservatory of music with top notch academics. Students will either double major in the conservatory (ie, music performance and music ed, or music performance and composition, etc), or double major in the conservatory and the college, like you want to (so, clarinet performance and occupational therapy). Lawrence University makes double majoring very easy, scheduling-wise. People double major in all sorts of unrelated things and nobody thinks anything of it. Some schools frown on it, so you will have to find a college that encourages students to do so.

Check out Lawrence's website. It's a great school and the Con (conservatory) is pretty competitive to get into, but it sounds like you're on the right track if you're only a sophomore. Many of my classmates are now getting master's degrees from schools like San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Eastman, Juilliard, Northwestern, etc.

Should I choose Occupational therapy or Physical Therapy for a profession?

We Answered:

Not all PT schools are private. I have included the link. PT do work with people with autism. The big difference is that OT is a Masters and PT is a clinical doctorate. You can get a clinical doctorate in OT as well. PT is a little heavier in the science and Ot more in psy but the classes overlap. If you go to a school that offers both, you will take many classes together.

My advice is to volunteer with both and see what you like. They are similiar but different. Intially they were the same profession and split.

what do you do when your goals appear hopeless and unachievable?

We Answered:

I think you have made a great choice for a career, Working with computers can give you gainful employment while keeping social interaction to a minimum. Given your social anxiety disorders, keeping the amount of social Integration limited will be a more comfortable way to tackle your challenges. But the most important thing is to work on one thing at a time... Congratulations on the success you've had working though your social interactions and aggressiveness. Here is a tool that i have found to be very successful in in anger therapy, and if your aggressiveness is a bi-product of anger this tool used correctly should rapidly give you considerable improvement to aggressive outbursts. I hope you can implement it into your program and it helps you as it has worked for many of my clients.

First off, anger is a secondary emotion. Meaning people don't feel anger first. The common primary emotions that cause anger are fear, hurt, jealousy, and being overwhelmed.

When you first start to feeling angry, stop thinking about what your going to do with your anger, and figure out why your angry. Has some one said something hurtful? Have you taken on more than you can accomplish? Are you fearful that someone may think ill of you? Did someone else get something you feel you should have received?

Once you have figured out what incident has caused your anger, Then work on finding a possitive solution to the problem. Say someone says something offensive to you and you get angry. Figure out if your angry because your feelings were hurt or maybe your afraid that what was said may hold water,

In the case of the first, realize that the offender is trying to get you angry and the best thing to do to get even is not show any emotional response , this will turn the tables on the other person, and should make you feel happy. In the case of the latter look at what was said , once youve identified the issue you can work on fixing that , it gives your brain a task that redirects your brainstate from a emotional response to goal orientated perseption of the situation cushioning your emotional intesity.

Good luck I hear that French Beach Front properties are really evpensive. .

Counseling Psychologist

I posted this position, because honestly there is nothing you can REALLY do in psychotherapy with an MA, you need to go for the PsyD or PhD if this area interests you.

Do a job search on indeed.com or monster.com and you'll see the requirements for the types of jobs you are interested in.
You will find that therapists are required to have a very specific license, in either social work or a phd/psyd in psychology.

I would go for the PsyD, it will better equip you with the extensive knowledge needed to be able to truly & properly help those in need of therapy.
