Samantha Said:

Student loan to pay for apartment?

We Answered:

You can only get as much money as the college says it will cost to attend, luckily, they over blow expenses. So for example, at UNT Dallas, the estimated cost for attendance was like $24,000 a year. I got a lot of money back, because tuition and books usually only cost me about $5,000 a year. I did not take out loans until my last year, due to student teaching and not being able to work. So my last year, I took home about $18,000. I used this money to pay bills and cover gas and car expenses, daycare etc.

Find out what your college considers cost of attendance and then you will have a better idea of how much you will have left over. If it is a community college, it is probably like $12,500 or something like that. Check apartments close to campus and see if they offer student discounts. Also, look into a part time job, because even if your rent is paid you still need utilities, gas for your car and food. A little 20 hour a week job, at min. wage will cover expenses. You will have plenty of time to still study and attend classes. Look into campus jobs, because they tend to offer flexible hours and try and work around your schedules.
