Schools With Occupational Therapy Programs

Regina Said:

career path- dance or occupational therapy or both?

We Answered:

You're obviously very passionate about dancing, and that's terrific :) Please be aware that the occupational therapy curriculum should be extremely intense, in and of itself, learning aspects of neuroscience and kinesiology (study of movement) and technical skills, let alone minoring in another course of study as well. The field of OT may be both mentally and physically draining, too.

How about talking with a student advisor at Montclair (and/or Kean) about your career goals and for some advisement.

Before committing to OT, if you haven't already, how about observing/job shadowing in the various areas that OTs may work such as a physical rehabilitation hospital that treats patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke ("brain attack") which is another type of brain injury, patients with a hip fracture or hip (or shoulder or knee) replacement -- pediatric hospital -- nursing home/long-term care facility -- local hospital -- outpatient therapy clinic -- psychiatric hospital.

OT programs usually require a certain amount of volunteer (and/or observing) hours, anyway ;)
