I am assuming your son has never been employed, and is not retired. In that case you can not claim an exemption for him as totally and permanently disabled. If he has never been employed he is also not eligible disabled tax credit.

You have applied for SSI for her? You have provided to them the unpaid/ or receipts for copays and other expenses? Your income is just over the allowable amount - but you should be able to deduct the medical expenses that are not covered by your insurance.

1. Most people are turned down the first time. Appeal or reapply.

2. Find out the value of your vehicles. One of them is exempt from counting. Any of its value over 2,000 makes you in eligible for benefits. Sell your car and buy one valued at 2,000 or less OR find a used sales dealer who will value you at 2,000 or less and demonstrate proof of its worth.

3. Get your doctor to write a letter that says it is medically imperative that you have a car to use while your husband is at work because of the nature of your child's disability.

4. Forget about the idea of divorce. Social Security is onto people divorcing just to get benefits and it does not work.

There is no way to condone a man that neglects his children before, during, or after a divorce, but your question is one that plagues all kinds of relationships. Luckily not everyone has an ex with the problems that you had to deal with.

Basically when any relationship ends, whether it is a marriage, whether there are kids, it does not really matter. There is always going to be the one that wants out and the one that was told to get out. It is much more difficult to move on when you are not the one that wanted out of the relationship, and for some it can just burn inside that someone you cared for not only no longer wants you, they have found that happiness that they could not find with you with someone else. Jilted men often times associate their children with the mother that gave birth to them... the decision to push away from their children is a conscious act of not wanting to have anything to do with their ex.

Like I said, it is not cool, but that is how some men act.
