Charlene Said:

If I want to become a Pharmacist then is the University of Washington a good choice?

We Answered:

UW is a great school. Ask their counseling department what undergrad the pharmacy dept wants to see.

You do know for the same amount of work you can become a physician's assistant. And then you get to write the prescriptions instead of filling them.

Majoring in biochemistry to become pharmacist?

We Answered:

you can major in any majors to become a pharmacist - not necessary biochemistry. Biochemistry is mostly about feedback regulation, metabolism, and regulations (took it, but i don't think it is too interesting). Yeah, you can do a lot with a biochemistry degree.

Ella Said:

Wat to do to become a pharmacy tech for part time while studying to become a pharmacist?

We Answered:

hey! i'm actually working as a pharmacy tech/intern while attending (pre-)pharmacy school right now. it depends on your state, but many states don't REQUIRE any formal education to be a pharmacy tech, although a lot of companies prefer it.

if you start a pre-pharmacy program at a school that will allow you to transition into their PharmD program after 2 years, companies will see that you're interested in the profession and it will be easier to get a job at a pharmacy as a tech.

if you need anymore advice or info, just email me. huy_zer@yahoo.com, otherwise good luck!

Jeff Said:

is it possible an average person to become pharmacist?

We Answered:

I think one person hit the nail on the head so far. If you want it, that is the key. BUT - and this is a strong but - if you do not grasp chemistry, algebra, and other higher math and science, you will struggle, and I mean STRUGGLE. Everyone cannot be whatever they want to be - that is a lie grownups tell their children because they cannot face the truth that some people are dumb, retarded, brain-damaged, delusional, psychotic or schizophrenic. So, you must know yourself, know your strengths, your weaknesses, your interests, and your natural talents. Focus on your areas of weakness. If you reach a point in your goals where you find yourself struggling in a particular class or with a particular subject, then give it your best. Spend more time studying and practicing, but be realistic and be prepared to face failure when you see it. Failure is not a bad word; it is from failure that we learn how to succeed. Ask any entrepreneur.

Be prepared if necessary to divert your interests if you find yourself in an ongoing battle with some area of (pharmacy) study. I know students who have taken courses three and four and five times and they finally had to accept that they could not grasp the material. It is even sadder when that is the case in remedial classes; they technically couldn't even get in the door.

I wish you the best in all your endeavors and hope to see you behind the Wal-Mart pharmacy counter some day. Or perhaps in the Peace Corps administering medicine to the doctors who are saving lives in war-torn communities.
