Becoming A Pharmacist
Minnie Said:
what science course should i take in high school if i am planning on becoming a pharmacist? We Answered:
If I were you, assuming you have equal abilities in these subjects, I would take AP Chemistry as introductory college chemistry tends to be harder than introductory college biology. In introductory college chemistry classes, the labs suck and you lose like a million points if you make one stupid mistake and get the wrong results. But if you are planning on becoming a pharmacist, then hopefully these things wouldn't be too big of an issue anyway. I believe pharmacy focuses more on chemistry than biology (although it involves a good amount of biology as well). But, as you know, the point of AP classes is to get college credit, so it's best to pick the subject that you are better at because that will increase your chance of getting credit. So either pick the one you are better in or pick AP Chemistry if you are equal in both of them.Holly Said:
Is physics a prerequisite for dentistry or becoming a pharmacist? We Answered:
I know it is a pre-req for pharmacy. I'm not quite sure about dentistry, but it probably is a pre-req.Stephanie Said:
How hard is it to go from being a pharmacist aide/technician to becoming an actual pharmacist? We Answered:
You have to go to school for that. It's expensive, but worth it. Also, when you're a pharmacist.. you have to go back to school every few years to keep up with the new medicines that are being created.Nathaniel Said:

What's my next step in becoming a pharmacist if I just got out of high school and in a community college? We Answered:
find out which major university is nearest to your house (if you dont plan on moving away to go to pharmacy school.) i go to duquesne university pharmacy school. i'm in my last year of school. if you want to take all of the undergraduate classes at community college, tell your community college advisor that you are interested in pharmacy school. bring with you the undergraduate prerequisites from the major universities website. (mine would be www.duq.edu for duquesne), and follow links to pharmacy school, and undergrad courses. every university has the curriculum laid out as to what they require students to take in order to be eligible for the "professional phase" of pharmacy school (which basically means--all my undergrad courses are finished and i can now learn real pharmacy stuff.)if you get all of your undergraduate courses finished at community college, apply to the major university every year you are in community college (because they may get more pharmacy school applicants one year versus the next), and the earlier you apply the better. ALSO, go down to the major university and go to the pharmacy school offices and try to schedule a meeting with one of the advisors and find out what they have to say. You could probably give them a call and schedule some sort of meeting. I actually transferred into duquesne from pitt, so i needed to do a lot of this process. I do know that the earlier you get out of the community college and into the major university the better off you are!
hope this helps!
