Careers For Pharmacists
Tanya Said:
Careers..pharmacist? or optometrist??We Answered:
There is much more to consider when choosing a career than just salary, hours, benefits... Pharmacy has great pay, flexible hours, varied practice settings, respect, job security, can be very rewarding but is also very stressfull, hard work, and fraught with insurance and legal headaches.Do you have an issue with dispensing other oral contraceptives to patients? If not, then you should not have a problem with Plan B since they are the made from the same hormone. In fact, a patient could take 4 pills of certain other brands of birth control pills to get the same as one dose of Plan B. The Plan B pill is not the same as RU-486.
Besides, there is no law forcing any pharmacist to fill any prescription that they don't want to. Your employer may feel differently but many states now have laws that protect pharmacists and allow them to refuse to fill a prescription on moral grounds as long as it does not cause a delay in the patient getting the prescription from another pharmacist or pharmacy.
As a pharmacist I spend much more time advising people on how to treat their sick, feverish, hurt babies and children, or how to give their kids prescription antibiotics or asthma meds, or when they should take the kids to the doctor or ER and providing birthcontrol, condoms and counseling than I do dispensing Plan B. And I don't make judgements about any one who comes to me for advice. I try to put them totally at ease so they can feel comfortable in asking me anything. I want to make sure I can give them the best healthcare possible so I need them to be as honest as possible and neither of us should be embarrassed or ashamed. It is their health that I have made it my life's work to be concerned with improving, that is all I am interested in.

To all pharmacist, i have a medicine combination question.?We Answered:
Hi,Not sure if this is the sort of thing you might be looking for for your project (and Im sorry but I am not a pharmacist - only a consumer that was inadvertantly prescribed contra-indicated medications by a Dr., that caused a major problem).
My treating specialist prescribed for me to take Tramadol (Ultram) and Zoloft at the same time.
When these two medications are taken at the same time they can cause the brain to overproduce serotonin, which can lead to a life-threatening condition called Serotonin Syndrome or Serotonin Crisis.
The outcome for me was that I suffered permanent brain damage and ended up confined to a wheelchair. Several years later, I still suffer numerous nuerological problems as a result of this situation.
The effects of Serotonin Syndrome can range from mild to death and the cause is nearly always as a result of a combination of prescription medications that increase the brain's production of serotonin.
Not all people whom take this combination of meds will have any problems and many Dr.'s ignore the warning against combining them, however, Serotonin Syndrome is a real problem and has caused deaths.
I truly hope this might be some help with your project.

Choosing a career for the money only ? Is that bad ?We Answered:
Choose a job that you ENJOY and it INTERESTS you...never choose a job only because of the money. You WILL eventually be miserable simply because you would hate waking up to go to a job you didn't like. There will be a job out there that will interest you, AND give a nice amount of money...you just have to find that job.
Good luck.
Sandra Said:
which one is a better career , engineering or pharmacist? We Answered:
Engineering is definitely better than going for pharmacist because of a lot of factors :-1) The pay an engineer gets is more than what a pharmacist gets.
2) There are more chances of getting promotion and perks in your career.
3) An engineer has got higher status in society than a pharmacist .
4) Engineers are in-demand than pharmacist .
I hope it has helped you in making a decision for yourself.

Retail Pharmacists Career?We Answered:
Western Career College offers a Pharmacy Technician program. It doesn't look like they offer the Pharm.D. program, so you need to find a school that you want to attend that has the Pharm.D. Work with them because you don't want to waste time and money taking classes at WCC that won't apply towards your degree. You can also contact a career counselor at your school.USC and UCSF have programs, so you might look at their website to get more information. You will need to take lots of science and some math.
