Clinical Pharmacist Job

Catherine Said:

Chemical Engineer, then Pharmacist?

We Answered:

I do not suggest becoming a chemical engineer if you really want to be a Pharmacist!! They deal with mills and less with Chemistry (from my experience). Also, there are 3 engineers for every engineering job. . .and engineering school is HARD!! So why go through the stress of becoming an engineer, AND the stress of Pharmacy school (which isn't easy either!)

I recommend getting a bachelors and Major in Chemistry and minor in something more marketable . . . like business, or double major (only takes a few more classes than a minor to double major in some case. A minor is generally 18-20 credit hours and a major is 32-36 credit hours .

Also, having a bachelors in general will make you more marketable. The biggest thing about a degree is that it shows you are teachable and you are committed and dedicated (helps if you have really good grades)!

I also think that if you go into engineering and work in engineering, it might be harder to just leave after a few years . . . once you enter the real world and bring home that real paycheck, it is really hard to just drop everything and go back to being a poor college student . . . that is something I am struggling with regarding a PhD!!

Good luck and I hope this was helpful!
